Bestmed-ASG’s Nicolene Marais shared some tips on how to stay on the healthy track during the festive season.
It is important not to deviate too much from your healthy lifestyle, as this can quickly turn into a nightmare.
You will start to feel it in your clothes, which will cause a snowball effect of guilt and emotional conflict.
This can make you crave more comfort food that will make you feel tired, and you will start looking for excuses not to exercise.
To keep a balanced diet during the festive season you need to develop a strategy that will help you to continue a healthy lifestyle.
You need to focus on sleep and exercise. Sleep deprivation can lead to weight gain, especially the dangerous abdominal fat.
When you are sleep deprived your energy levels decline, we then tend to go for the instant fix – coffee with lots of sugar, sweetened energy drinks or a pack of crisps.
When you’re feeling tired and low, you also tend to skip exercise or reduce the intensity and time of physical activity.
Always have a bottle of water with you to keep hydrated, and stock your fridge with fresh fruits and vegetables.
Plan your holiday menu and try to stick to it. If you have to cheat, consider what you are giving up for the cheat.
