On Saturday morning when I arrived at Sun City for the race my emotions almost got the better of me.
My whole feeling changed when I met our team manager Owen Botha, who made me feel at home the moment we met.
I remember he held me to relax and told me to just enjoy the ride.
At the starting line I found myself surround by male riders. I was unfocused and concentrated more on not being knocked down at the start of the race.
I went out hard from the beginning chasing the men down and keeping up with the front riders.
The pace was fast and the climbing suited me.
I am thankful that I took first place without any technical problems.
The team also made me feel at home. It was an enormous privilege to race for Team Bestmed-ASG.
Thanks to all the sponsors and Owen for the support.
My fellow team member Nicolene Marais also made me feel at home and I look forward to racing with her in the future.
My next focus will be for the Varsity Cup XCO as well as the National MTB Series race in Dullstroom next weekend.
